SAN ANGELO, Texas -- Angelo State University hosted the annual Military Appreciation football game at the San Angelo Stadium Nov. 12.

“[ASU members] make tribute to those members of our community that have served or are serving our country in the different branches of the armed services,” said Master Sgt. Christopher Francis, 17th Contracting Squadron superintendent. “It demonstrates that San Angelo really cares about its veterans and service members.”

Volunteers from the base and local various ROTC detachments came to help celebrate the communities bond with the military.

“This is the most military friendly state I’ve ever been in,” said Airman 1st Class Benjamin Phanivong, 315th Training Squadron student. “It’s incredible. We get to see a football game for free, our comrades get to take part in the football game. Thank you so much for all the support and letting us come in here for free.”

During half-time, Col. Jeffrey Sorrell, 17th Training Wing Vice Commander, performed a swearing-in of delayed enlistment program members from multiple services.

As part of the pre-game show, High Sky Wing of the commemorative Air Force performed a fly-over.
