Energy awareness is for everyone

GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Have you thought about how you can help save energy? October is Energy Action Month, a good time to not only start thinking about it, but to do it as well.

Sometimes it's as simple as turning off the light when you leave a room and other times it's more complicated such as sharing a fridge in the office. But don't let the complications stop you from thinking of ways to help the Air Force and you save money.

As we are all aware, Uncle Sam's wallet is not as big as it used to be. If everyone helped in small ways, we could save money here and use it in other places it's needed.

According to Mary C. Lumsdon, 17th Civil Engineer Squadron base energy manager, here are a few ways you can help save energy at work:

· Turn off items when not in use.
· Turn off computer monitors when out of the office.
· Limit personal appliances.
· Consolidate refrigerated items to a break room fridge when possible.

She also mentioned ways to save at home such as raising and lowering your thermostat for the different seasons.

If you stop and think about the things you do on a regular basis, you might be surprised at some of the ways you can save.
