Legal office is here to help

GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- There's an old joke that goes "if a lawyer and an IRS agent were drowning and you could only save one, would you (a) go to lunch; or (b) read a book?"

Joking aside, the legal office at Goodfellow is here to help you with many of your legal needs. Every month, dozens of servicemembers, family members and retirees save hundreds of dollars by having legal documents prepared for free at the legal office. In 2008 alone, we saved our clients $265,000 in legal fees!

An attorney can draft your will and assist in the execution of your will, all in the same day. Call 654-3203 to make an appointment to have your will drafted; will appointments are Wednesday mornings from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Anytime during duty hours, 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Department of Defense identification card holders can have documents notarized and/or obtain a power of attorney.

While we can't advise you on criminal matters or issues you may have with your chain of command, there are many issues we can help with, such as divorce, child custody, landlord/tenant issues, financial issues and problems with creditors. Come in during our walk-in hours - 2:30-3:30 p.m. on Thursdays - to see a legal assistance attorney.

While we cannot represent you in court, we can give you advice and review legal documents.

If you have an issue that will require you to hire an attorney to represent you in court, we can provide you with a reference to the appropriate state bar association.

Make sure you bring in any documents that you have questions about when you come, this will help us provide you with more complete legal advice.

Remember, we're here to help. Please call 654-3203 or stop by and see us in the wing headquarters building.
