Civilians and Goodfellow Air Force Base service members participated in the 13th annual Tom Green County’s All Veterans Council Annual Veterans Day Parade in downtown San Angelo Nov. 5.

“It’s amazing to be a part of this,” said Airman 1st Class Patrick Tobias, 17th Communications Squadron client systems technician. “Being in the front of the pack as Honor Guard and seeing all the support felt amazing.”

The parade started at 11 a.m. and featured active duty service members from the Air Force, Navy, Army and Marine Corps as well as veterans from OPERATION Iraqi Freedom, OPERATION Enduring Freedom, Vietnam, Korea and World War II.

“I didn’t expect such a huge turn out from the community,” said Tobias. “It just shows that they really love us here.”

The parade also featured the San Angelo Police and Fire Departments, local school bands and ROTC groups in addition to celebrating local veterans.

“It means a lot that the community can come together to show support,” said Sgt. Cade Solsbery, San Angelo Police Department traffic division. “We have a lot of veterans in town who have served previously that have a connection with this parade.”

The parade is a reminder of the sacrifices everybody in the military have to go through and it helps renew that, said Solsbery.
