ISR Command Chief imparts her wisdom
Heath's tour of the base began with the Louis F. Garland Department of Defense Fire Academy and ended with a visit to the Crossroads Student Center.
Additionally, Heath also took time to mentor the Airman Leadership School Class 14-D, followed by mentoring sessions at an enlisted call. While meeting with the ALS class, Heath addressed reasons why to never turning down an opportunity.
"You don't know where it's going to take you next, you don't know what doors it will open and you don't know -- yet -- how you're going to grow as a person and what you're going to learn about yourself," said Heath. "That's what I learned. I learned never turn an opportunity down, even though you don't think want to do it, because you have no idea where it's going to lead you."
At both the visit with ALS and the enlisted call, Heath touched on the role of supervisors.
"The most important title and role you will ever have in your Air Force career, actually in any career, is to be a supervisor," said Heath. "As a supervisor, you get the chance to influence and make a difference in someone's development, someone's life, someone's career firsthand, and they will remember you depending on how well you execute this role. They'll remember you whether you're good or you're bad and we don't want to be remembered in the negative, so make it your goal to be a positive impact and role model."
Heath focused on getting to know your people as an NCO and how it can be uncomfortable.
"She really made me realize the importance of getting to know your people," said Senior Airman Anthony Elijah, 315th Training Squadron instructor. "She said she was an introvert but she stepped out of her box, her comfort zone. She showed me that it's going to be uncomfortable at first because I'm an introvert also but you have to get out of your comfort zone to excel in the Air Force and to be a good NCO, you have to know your people."
This was Heath's second visit to Goodfellow and her first opportunity to tour units outside of her ISR scope.
"I appreciate the opportunity to come and be exposed to a lot more than I have in my previous visit," said Heath. "Any time I get a chance to see our Airmen in action is inspirational and confirms that the future of our Air Force is in the great hands of these future leaders! Awesome!"
