Goodfellow hosts Retiree Appreciation Day
The Retiree Activities Office, with the help of several base organizations, hosted a Retiree Appreciation Day starting with an information fair at the Event Center Nov. 19.
The fair featured the veterinarian clinic, finance office, the Airmen and Family Readiness Center and other organizations, as well as a speech from Col. Michael L. Downs, 17th Training Wing Commander, to kick off the day.
"We wanted to say thank you for your service," said Downs. "We are only here because of you; we inherited your legacy."
After Downs' speech, retirees could receive shots from the 17th Medical Group, get new IDs from the Military Personnel Service or go on a guided bus tour.
"I'm just looking to see what activities there are and get to know the new facilities that there are since I was here last in '89," said retired Army 1st Sgt. Rai Requena, Retiree Activity Day participant.
To complete their visit to Goodfellow, the Base Chapel provided them with a free lunch.
