It is our pleasure to announce the 17th Training Wing, Goodfellow Air Force Base, as Air Education and Training Command's nomination for the 2018 Commander-in-Chief's Installation Excellence Award.

This nomination not only recognizes the superb level of performance by the Wing, but also the amazing contributions provided by our incredible community as well.”
Established in 1984, the CINC's IEA recognizes the outstanding efforts of the people who operate and maintain Department of Defense installations, and who have done the best with their resources to support the mission.
Encouraging an atmosphere of innovative ways to enhance base-level services, facilities and quality-of-life, installations compete in areas such as Force Development, Operations & Readiness, Logistics, Facilities, Security Forces, Contracting, Energy & Environmental, Communications & Information, Public Affairs, Safety, Services and Surgeon General. The winning installation at the Air Force level will receive $700,000, the runner-up installation will receive $400,000, and two honorable mention installations will each receive $200,000. Monetary amounts are subject to change based on evolving fiscal guidance.
Over the past year, the men and women of Team Goodfellow have led the way when it comes to innovation and efficiency. They designed and employed a $1.4 million LED road lighting system, which reduced energy consumption by 74 percent. The Medical Treatment Facility received a Department of Defense Military Health System "Best of Best" recognition by crafting mobile apps and programs that enhanced and expedited patient scheduling and patient care. Team Goodfellow was also able to save $7 million in off-base expenditures, netting a Contracting Unit of the Year Award with the highest cost reduction in AETC.
AETC released the winners of its Innovation Competition in March, with Goodfellow taking home the Institutional Culture Category. To win the award, the 17th Training Wing competed with all other bases in AETC.
“Without the support and buy-in from wing, group and squadron leadership, we could not have built the culture of innovation,” said Shawn Gilmore, 17th Force Support Squadron manpower and organization chief. “Building this culture led to the 17th Training Wing winning the award for the Institutional Culture category.”
Goodfellow’s efforts also include instituting a Total Force Development mentoring program, the 517th Training Group standing up the first Operational Medical Element within AETC, several agencies across the base opening for extended hours giving more options for trainees and permanent party, easing office personnel management lag through information technology solutions, addressing students awaiting training clearance issues, and posturing the base to train more than 30 countries by securing $2.6 million for an international training facility.
Goodfellow continues to lead the Air Force as number one of 62 bases with 24 Public-Public and Public-Private memorandums of agreement that benefit both the base and the community surrounding it.
