The San Angelo Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee hosted the Goodfellow Appreciation Day Picnic on Saturday, Armed Forces Day, at the Goodfellow Recreation Camp at Lake Nasworthy.

The free event was open to all active-duty military, Department of Defense civilians, and families. This year's event marks the second consecutive time the chamber has hosted event, which they plan on continuing annually.

The event was sponsored by more than 60 different businesses and organizations from the local community. Approximately 90 volunteers helped at the event, which attracted more than 2,000 people.

About 1,600 people attended last year's picnic, a successful attendance the chamber looked forward to building upon.

"This year we wanted to increase the number of attendance because we want to make sure we reach out to as many Goodfellow members as possible," said Peggy Arnold, San Angelo Chamber of Commerce vice president of operations.

"Goodfellow is a very important part of our community. This picnic is our way of showing our appreciation for all the hard work and sacrifices you all make," she added.

Events of the day included a barbecue-style lunch with all the trimmings and more than a dozen games and activities combined to make this year's Goodfellow Appreciation Day a tremendous, fun-filled success.

"My family and I enjoyed everything about the picnic," said Tech. Sgt. Ignacio Castro-Luna. "It feels great to be a part of a community that really appreciates what we do."
