2013 chili cook-off just around the corner Published Aug. 27, 2013 By 1st Lt. Leanne Hedgepeth 17TRW/PA GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas-- -- The Goodfellow Recreation Camp hosts the 2013 Chili Cook-off from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 28. "The chili cook-off has been a tradition for 40 years and was founded by then base commander, John Nickolauk and Harlam Bruha," said John Farris, recreation camp assistant manager. The event begins with set up the day before where participants reserve their areas and begin preparations for the cook-off. There are three categories for the chili competition: terlingua, anything goes and beans, but the event is not limited to cooking chili. Participants may compete in preparing brisket, ribs and chicken as well. The first, second and third place winners of each category will receive a trophy. The top three places in the Terlingua category of the chili cook-off will advance to the National Terlingua Chili Cook-off. For more information please contact Harry Gilbert at 325-944-1012.
