McFarlane 17th Training Wing Public Affairs SAN ANGELO, Texas -- The Marine Corps Detachment Goodfellow celebrated the Marine’s 241st birthday at the McNease Convention Center, Nov. 12. The ceremony included the traditional cake cutting and retired Cpl. Garrett Jones was the guest speaker. In his speech, Jones talked about being injured by a roadside bomb in Iraq. His left leg was injured and was amputated above the knee. While recuperating, Gen. James Conway, Commandant of the Marine Corps, visited him and Jones expressed interest in getting back to his unit. Thanks to the assistance of the general, Jones rejoined his unit and later deployed with them to Afghanistan.
