Operation Warmheart helps out for Thanksgiving Published Nov. 22, 2016 By Senior Airman Joshua Edwards 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The Goodfellow First Sergeant Association with the help of 17th Training Wing service members and civilians packed 212 boxes for Operation Warmheart, a yearlong program to boost service member morale, at the commissary Nov. 22. Around Thanksgiving, Operation Warmheart assists service members to have a Thanksgiving meal by providing them with a turkey and nonperishable items such as box mashed potatoes and canned yams. “Operation Warmheart is important to me because it helps give back to the community,” said Capt. Tanda Holden, 17th Training Wing executive officer. “This is an easy opportunity to take some time and give back to those who don’t have what you have.” After everyone finished packing the boxes, the first sergeants delivered the boxes to their respective units. “As a young Airman, I was in a single income family with two small children,” said Master Sgt. Russell Unger, 17th Medical Group first sergeant. “I received these boxes the first couple years I was enlisted and it really helped. It may not seem like much when you get higher up in rank but it definitely helps our junior enlisted.”
