Dr. Carol Bonds received the 5th Annual Air Education and Training Command International Student Support Award at the Goodfellow Air Force Base Annual Awards in the cactus Hotel Feb. 3.

This award is presented to a person whose long-term, volunteer efforts have significantly and positively helped international students at AETC schools adjust to life in the U.S. and succeed in their academic endeavors.

This marks the first time a Goodfellow community member received the award.

“This year's award winner worked tirelessly to help build not only an especially strong bond between the local community and our international students but also leveraged community resources in support of the Goodfellow AFB international training mission,” said George Gagnon, AETC International Training and Education director. “Dr. Bonds' efforts enabled AETC to offer both training and a training experience that otherwise might not have been available to our international students. Her efforts are truly noteworthy and most sincerely appreciated.”

Goodfellow trained 58 international students from 19 different countries, including Saudi Arabian partners, in 2016. The base has made accommodations to train 43 students from 10 different countries in the early part of 2017, the highest number of international students ever at Goodfellow, and has plans to renovate Heath Hall, which was previously used as the Airman Leadership School and NCO Academy, into an International Training Center to accommodate training interests from over 30 ally and partner nations.
