SAN ANGELO, Texas --

Nearly 250 people came out to support the 17th Force Support Squadron’s Polar Bear Party at the Goodfellow Air Force Base Recreation Camp Feb. 11.

Although the party has been going on for 16 years, this is only the second year it has included a run.

“We added the run because it is one of our more popular, things and one of the things we get asked for the most,” said Shandy Scott, 17th Force Support Squadron event coordinator manager. “We are trying to do a themed run every month and this just fell in together. It helps us makes this a bigger event.”

Once the competitors finished the run, it was time for people to take a plunge into Lake Nasworthy.

“The commander is trying to get the whole team riled up and get everyone out here to have a good time,” said Rhonda Zimmerman, 17th Training Wing commander secretary. “I’m so looking forward to that cool water, it makes you feel alive.”

With a temperature of 82 degrees outside, swimmers still felt the chill of the water.

“It was a little cold,” said Jacob Bull, 312th Training Squadron student. “It was a real adrenaline rush.”

After the plunge, FSS tallied up participation from each squadron and presented an award to the team with the most people. This year’s trophy went the Army’s 344th Military Intelligence Battalion.
