The Military Saves Campaign began with a memorandum of understanding signing at the Norma Brown building Feb. 28.

"Military Saves helps get you prepared to be financial savvy in an early mindset,” said Qiana Woods, 17th Force Support Squadron Airman and Family Readiness Center certified personal finance counselor. “It provides service members a chance to get on the right path to saving and retirement."

The Airman and Family Readiness Center hosts a variety of classes with an emphasis on saving money, retirement plans and improving credit scores, which are listed at the end of this article.

"Discussing finances is just something people don't do, not even with their spouses,” said Woods. “The AFRC provides service members with free, private one-on-one counseling to assist them with budgeting. This is something I'm passionate about it and we need to get the word out so we can help with financial goals.”

Military Saves encourages military members to pledge to save money to reach a financial goal.

Col. Michael L. Downs, 17th Training Wing commander, said he pledged to save for retirement and a home.
