Students came from all over Texas to attend the Angelo State University’s 19th Annual JROTC Drill Competition at ASU March 25.

“I really loved watching the competition,” said Senior Airman Curtis Harrington, 17th Communications Squadron cyber transport technician. “Seeing the professionalism and discipline these students display is really motivating to me.”

More than 13 schools competed in the drills in an all-day event.

“I came out here to see what was going on and I’m pretty happy I did,” said Harrington. “It’s crazy to see all these students come from all over the country to try and win.”

Volunteers from Goodfellow Air Force Base judged the competition and helped set up the event.

Staff Sgt. Terrence Alexander, 316th Training Squadron instructor, judged parts of the competition.

“It kind of reminds me of where I used to be,” said Alexander. “It also gives perspective that as a teacher I can provide direction.”

During the exhibition, tandem and individual drills, students are allowed to get creative and come up with their own routines while the warrior challenge is a test of their physical fitness.
