SAPR hosts SARC Challenge Published April 17, 2017 By Airman 1st Class Chase Sousa 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The 17th Training Wing Sexual Assault Prevention and Response hosted a Sexual Assault Response Coordinator Challenge around Goodfellow April 14. The challenge had participants run around the base to different stations and complete a unique task. “It was my first time seeing the challenge and it was pretty awesome,” said Airman 1st Class Efrain Guzman, 17th Communications Squadron network technician. “My favorite part was seeing the contestants try to open and wear a frozen t-shirt.” Each task had a SAPR related riddle competitors had to solve to move onto the next checkpoint. “The SARC Challenge raises awareness though teaching participants that in order to succeed you must work together, just like in combating sexual assault,” said Donna Casey, 17th Training Wing SARC. The SARC Challenge was also held in conjunction with Goodfellow’s Sports Day. “This is the first year we did it as part of sports day,” said Casey. “It was beneficial because people got the opportunity to participate since it was on a work day instead of on a Saturday.” The challenge is part of an overall initiative to educate service members about SAPR programs and reporting options. “SAPR is important for everyone since unfortunately sexual assault is a reality in the military,” said Casey. “The only way to win this battle is by looking out for each other and realizing sexual assault does affect all of us and that we all need to come together and look out for each other and support each other if an assault should occur.”
