SAN ANGELO, Texas -- Athletes from both Goodfellow and San Angelo participated in the 17th Force Support Squadron’s Annual Sprint Triathlon at the Goodfellow Air Force Base recreation camp July 29.
Approximately 70 participants came out this year to complete the 400 meter swim, 20K bike ride and a 5K run.
Brian Lemaster, an Army instructor, was the winner of the overall male category.
“Physical fitness is part of our lifestyle,” said Lemaster. “After I retired from the military I needed something to do to stay active.”
The triathlon took more than one hour for him to complete.
“You need perseverance, after going through the trials and tribulations of whether or not you need to push harder or dial it back it is what helps you through,” said Lemaster.
The event coordinator, Marcel Gibson, agrees when speaking of the importance of perseverance.
“You have to have a strong will, strong mentality and strong focus,” said Gibson.
Gibson also encourages anyone to come out and try to tackle the challenge of next year’s triathlon.
“It’s good to do thing with the community,” said Gibson.
The winner of the top military male category was 1st Lt. Benjamin Yokley, 315th Training Squadron student, and the winner of the top military female category was Capt. Aubrie Frazier, 17th Medical Support Squadron pharmacy technician.
