Kicking off Military Saves Week

Col. Jeffrey Sorrell, 17th Training Wing vice commander, and Financial Readiness Manager with the Airman and Family Readiness Center, William Gathecha, kicked off the Military Saves Week by signing a proclamation here on Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas, Feb. 23.
A series of events geared toward helping Goodfellow service members, civilians and their families save money are planned for Feb. 26 through March 3. The Airman and Family Readiness Center is scheduled to host a number of seminars to promote the campaign.

Interested individuals may also check out available resources on the website for military saves week at www.militarysaves.org.

“People are always looking for resources,” said Gathecha. “We have a few repeat attendees who come back to refresh and see what all is available.”

Feb. 26: Save with a plan
· “Military Youth Saves” at buildings 915 and 927 from 4-6 p.m.


Feb. 27: Save automatically
· “Stretching Your Money” at the AFRC from 9-11 a.m.
· “Thrift Savings Plan: TSP” at the AFRC from 11 a.m. to noon.
· Come In! Get Your Credit Score at the AFRC from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
· “Developing Your Spending Plan: Start Small, Think Big” at the AFRC from 6-7 p.m.

Feb. 28: Save for a rainy day
· Come In! Get Your Credit Score at the AFRC from 9-11 a.m.
· “Home Sweet Home: Strategies for Home Buying” at the AFRC from 2-3 p.m.
· “Taking Control of Your Finances; Managing Credit and Debt” at The Crossroads from 5-6 p.m.

Mar. 1: Save to retire
· “Come In! Get Your Credit Score at the AFRC from 10 a.m. till noon.
· “Thrift Savings Plan: TSP” at the AFRC from 11 a.m. till noon.
· “Dream Big, Plan Now: Making Your Ideal Retirement a Reality” at the AFRC from 2-3 p.m.
· “Blended Retirement System” at the AFRC from 5-6 p.m.

Mar. 2: Save the extra
· Tax Preparation at the AFRC from 9-10 a.m.
· “Saving and Investing” at the AFRC from 11 a.m. to noon.
· “You Earned It: making the most of Your Military Benefits” at the AFRC from 5-7 p.m.
· Come In! Get Your Credit Score at the AFRC from 5-7 p.m.

Mar. 3: Save as a family
· Come In! Get Your Credit Score at the AFRC from 9:30 to noon.
· “Developing Your Spending Plan: Start Small, Think Big” at The Crossroads from 10 a.m. to noon.
· “Blended Retirement System” at The Crossroads from 11 a.m. to noon.
