Col. Ricky Mills, 17th Training Wing commander, hosted a civic leader luncheon to discuss updates on the latest projects involving the base and the San Angelo community at the Goodfellow Event Center, March 28.

San Angelo and Goodfellow have a long history of close partnerships. The community and civic leaders have been advocates for several initiatives including Goodfellow receiving the Defense Economic Adjustment Grant. Their work together was recognized in February when San Angelo and Goodfellow were awarded the Air Force Community Partnership award in the category of leadership excellence.

“I want Goodfellow to be an assignment of choice – a place where people want to come for the mission, the people and the community,” said Mills.

Discussions during the luncheon included topics surrounding the International Intelligence Training Center, on-going projects throughout the base, and how mission growth is occurring on Goodfellow.

Lt. Col. Abraham Salomon, 17th Training Support Squadron commander, discussed the importance of international students with a focus on what makes San Angelo and Goodfellow different. He described how integration for those students was the focus, highlighting the importance of integration for academics, integration of the base and integration into the community.

With community civic leaders that included San Angelo’s Mayor, Chamber of Commerce representatives, local business owners and Goodfellow honorary commanders, Mills emphasized the importance of innovation and how these meetings keep us moving forward.

“We’re here to make sure positive momentum never slows down,” said Mills.
