GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas --
Pfc. Alyssa Fox, Marine Corps Detachment trainee, is the Goodfellow Student of the Month Spotlight for May, a series highlighting exceptional Airmen, Soldiers, Sailors and Marines.
17th Training Wing Public Affairs:
What led you to join the military?
I really wanted to serve my country and leave a legacy behind that my family could honor and look up to. Most of my family served in the military, and my grandmother retired as a senior master sergeant in the Air Force.
What has been the most impactful moment in your career so far?
Probably when I graduated boot camp and when I completed the “Crucible,” the last event for Marine Corps basic training. After finishing that, you really feel accomplished. You do a nine-mile hike and at the end you get rewarded with the Eagle, Globe and Anchor [the symbol of the Marine Corps]. It really hit at that moment and it has been the biggest moment so far.
What are your hobbies?
I train in jujitsu. I love to work out. I love to do outdoor activities, going to the lake and hanging out with friends, hiking and such.
What do you want to accomplish during your time here at Goodfellow Air Force Base?
I really want to become good at my job. I want to learn all that I need to learn to go out to the fleet and do what I need to do for the Marine Corps.
Is there any advice or anything you would like to share?
I would say to really apply yourself. This is your time to learn what you need to learn and to grow into who you are going to be before you get out into the force.
