August 2018 Student of the Month Published Sept. 10, 2018 By Staff Sgt. Joshua Edwards 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Lance Cpl. Isaiah Gray, Marine Corps Detachment student, is the Goodfellow Student of the Month Spotlight for August, a series highlighting exceptional Airmen, Soldiers, Sailors and Marines. 17th Training Wing Public Affairs: What led you to join the military? Gray: Initially, I was interested in joining the band. I only wanted to pursue my musical career. I was going to college for music. Once I started talking to recruiters, I realized how much the military really resonated with me. The ideas of self-accountability, responsibly and discipline were very attractive to me. What has been the most impactful moment in your career so far? I think the moment I received my eagle, globe and anchor after completing the crucible in boot camp. At that moment I knew that I became a Marine and my life changed. What are your hobbies? I like to read, exercise and watch debates on YouTube. What do you want to accomplish during your time here at Goodfellow Air Force Base? As much as I can, I would like to pursue every leadership billet that is available to me. I have two courses here and I would like to receive honor graduate in both of them. If possible, I would like to go up for another student of the month board and a Marine of the month board as well. Is there any advice or anything you would like to share? If you are looking to be successful, just always place discipline over comfort and work before play.
