Col. Ricky Mills, 17th Training Wing commander, volunteered to deliver food and perform wellness checks as part of a Meals for the Elderly event Sept. 27.

Mills and other community leaders came out to support the event to try and raise awareness for the organization that serves 700 elderly in the area.

“My favorite part is to see how grateful the individuals are with the program itself and, really, just to know that we live in a society that cares about each other,” said Mills. “I see all these volunteers come together, not just today, but every day, to take care of them.”

Meals for the Elderly is a private, not for profit, charitable organization devoted to serving the homebound elderly in Tom Green County with one hot, nutritious home delivered meal each weekday, while ensuring their individual well-being through personal contact.
