Military Saves Campaign began with a proclamation signing by Col. Ricky Mills, 17th Training Wing commander, at the Western Winds Dining Facility, Feb. 22, and will be running from Feb. 25 to March 2.

The Military Saves Week proclamation, and info fair was held at the Western Winds to get more students involved and aware of the role they play in their financial goals and responsibilities.

Mills and Chief Master Sgt. Lavor Kirkpartrick, 17th TRW command chief, shared what they are saving for, then encouraged others in attendance to do the same.

After the proclamation signing, the info fair for the Military Saves Campaign was available for any student who wanted more information. Representatives from different organizations: Airman Family Readiness, 17th TRW finance office, Concho Valley Work Solutions, and 1st Community Federal Credit Union, were available to answer questions from students.

“It is my job to help military members and primarily spouses, find either employment resources or jobs opportunities in the Concho Valley area,” said Concho Valley Workforce Solutions Military Support Liaison Heather O’Brien. “Today gives me the opportunity to meet with service members from all of the branches.”

Military Saves Week will have events and opportunities for those who missed out on the info fair and proclamation signing.

“We will be sharing financial information as well as financial resources for military families,” said 17th Force Support Squadron Work Life Specialist William Gathecha.
“We will have credit report reviews, tax planning workshop, financial workshops and we have two certified financial counselors. We will have something going on every day.”

Gathecha explained why Goodfellow is recognizing the Military Saves Week.

“The importance of Military Saves Week is to bring awareness to Goodfellow members that financial planning is a critical piece of life planning,” said Gathecha. “We want to expose them to the various resources available to them. We encourage them to take the time to make their plan and be prepared, because they are the ones who are responsible for their financial well-being.”

There will be daily, free, financial appointments with a certified financial planner, credit reviews, scheduled finance workshops and unit workshops available on request during the event. To make an appointment contact 325-654-3893.
