GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Goodfellow AFB held a ceremony, hosted the 312th Training Squadron, to commemorate the events of 9/11 at the Louis F. Garland Department of Defense Fire Academy here, Sept. 11.
A moment of silence was held, and a bell rang. The five tones of the bell represent the attacks on the towers, the flight that crashed in Pennsylvania, the plane that struck the Pentagon, and the final toll is for the emergency responders who died working at Ground Zero. Due to COVID-19, the ceremony was shorter than in previous years but still meaningful.
“Although 9/11 was one of the most tragic days in American history, the events brought the nation together and displayed our united resolve to fight the war on terrorism,” said Col. Andres Nazario, 17th Training Wing commander. “Each of you has a part in shaping our future so an attack like 9/11 does not happen again. The Intelligence, Fire Protection and Special Instruments professionals we produce within the 17th Training Wing have made and will continue to make a difference in the war on terrorism. All of you have a part in keeping America safe”
