GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Nearly 100 volunteers dedicated time to stock commissary shelves here during Winter Storm Uri, Feb. 17.
After appealing to the base for assistance, Goodfellow Commissary had almost 10 times more volunteers respond than they requested.
Winter Storm Uri caused power outages across hundreds of homes in San Angelo and made travel on the roads treacherous.
Shoppers prepared for the storm, buying as many provisions as they could. While customers emptied shelves of all nonperishables, volunteers were able to turn the tide, stocking thousands of items in less than an hour, giving the commissary staff some much-appreciated help.
"Team Goodfellow is an incredible group of service members that I am proud to be a part of," said Keith C. Pollanen, commissary store director.
