Ten students from Goodfellow executed a recorded drill performance for submission to a virtual drill down, at the Louis F. Garland Department of Defense Fire Academy here, April 8.

This is the first drill down of its kind, as it is completely virtual. Five bases including Goodfellow, Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Fort Sam Houston, Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi, and Sheppard AFB, submitted their drill teams’ recorded routines into the competition.

Each team presented unique drill styles in a contest knowledge, skill, and professional appearance.

The team of Airmen representing Goodfellow executed an unarmed exhibition drill, which is a sequence composed of facing and marching movements. This routine was one they crafted specifically for this event and committed over a month of their time refining it.  Their drill submission, along with the other bases, will be consolidated into a single video and evaluated to determine which team will come out on top.

“I’m proud of the work they did to get here,” said Staff Sgt. Hunter Tucker, 315th Training Squadron military training leader. “Even though they’ve met some challenges, they were able to focus and put together a routine. I believe everyone watching will be proud of them as well.”
