The 17th Medical Group hosted an open house for local mental health providers throughout multiple locations on Goodfellow, Dec. 3.

Over 20 members from different mental health organizations in San Angelo attended the open house to learn and experience the life of the military members stationed at Goodfellow. Gaining this knowledge helps the providers thoroughly understand the stress and strain military members have in their day-to-day routines.

The providers, accompanied by Col. Derek Larbie, 17th MDG commander, and multiple other 17th MDG leaders, toured the 312th Training Squadron, the 315th TRS and the 17th MDG. Col. Matthew Reilman, 17th Training Wing commander, also held an office call to express how important it is to prioritize mental health and take care of Airmen and their families.

“Goodfellow is really where we’re building the capacity for firefighting and intelligence training,” said Reilman. “I just want to make sure you all understand the stresses on our instructors and permanent party to train and make sure Airmen and our joint services members are ready to go when they graduate, including the pressure and demand on the students as they go through training as well.”
