The 17th Training Wing will host its first Airpower Leadership Academy, scheduled from Nov. 28 to Dec. 2.

"The Airpower Leadership Academy (ALA) is a noncommissioned officer corps focused professional development initiative to further develop leadership abilities in the areas of personal and values-based philosophies,” said Tech. Sgt. Christian Arvelo, 312th Training Squadron fire protection instructor. “It allows our NCOs to examine their roles as leaders and managers through a new lens."

ALA is a free TDY intended for Air Force enlisted force development and will provide deliberate professional development for junior noncommissioned officers, that will leverage opportunities the modern digital age brings, and will focus on the force development plan, as directed by Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force, JoAnne S. Bass.

“Airpower Leadership Academy is unique and operates outside the normal professional development constructs, such as Noncommissioned Officer Academy or Airman Leadership School,” said Master Sgt. Matthew Broussard, 312th Training Squadron apprentice course flight chief. “ALA provides a more real-world experience necessary for the new generation of Airmen and the complex geopolitical problems we now see worldwide.”

The course facilitators will be SNCOs who have already experienced unique situations or challenges throughout their Air Force career.

By sharing these experiences to the junior NCO corps, facilitators will make every second count of developing the enlisted force. Facilitators are also optimizing and growing the capabilities of the NCO corps, and focusing on the Air Force’s greatest asset, its people.

“Senior NCOs are helping us by sharing their experiences,” said Arvelo. “We are doing what is needed to be better leaders and supervisors, especially for our people.”

ALA will provide an opportunity to network with personnel from around the squadrons, gain professional development, learn personal experiences and receive guidance from all directions including both facilitators and peers.

“As a supervisor and leader, you need to understand how to utilize your team dynamics correctly,” said Broussard. “Airpower Leadership Academy will prepare leaders to deal with complications, understand what resilience is and how to apply it, and generate force-multipliers.”
