Furlough impacts Goodfellow services Published June 28, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Erica Rodriguez 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The Defense Department wide furlough for civilian employees begins the week of July 8 and will last until the end of September, 2013. Furlough places an employee in non-duty, non-pay status, meaning the employee will not be paid and may not work or volunteer to work while on furlough. Furlough is part of the sequestration effort to reduce government spending. Commanders decide on how furlough days are scheduled and the days are spread out to avoid negative financial and personal impact to employees. Agencies on Goodfellow will be affected by the furlough in various ways. Some agencies, such as TMO, the Youth Center and Inspector General, will now be closed an additional day of the week. The Base Commissary will be closed as usual on Monday and will be closed on Tuesday as well during the furlough. Other agencies, such as the Education Office and the base Taxi, will have limited or reduced hours of service. The 17th Training Wing has released a chart displaying the impact of furlough throughout the wing's organizations. While an agency's open days or hours may not be affected, manning within an office may be reduced on certain days, which may in turn cause longer wait times or delay in services.
