Gate Send-Off reminds Team Goodfellow to be safe during holiday Published June 28, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Erica Rodriguez 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- With Independence Day approaching and a four day weekend to go along with it, the 17th Training Wing leadership and the Safety Office want to remind Team Goodfellow to be safe during the holiday. One of the ways leadership plans on doing so is through the Gate Send-Off. Commanders, First Sergeants, Chiefs, and the Green Knights Chapter 64 Motorcycle Group, will man the North and Jacobson Gates from 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. July 3 to pass out 17th TRW Wingman Cards and to remind members to keep their focus on safety and risk management during the holiday. "We are making sure people are getting a proper send-off," said Col. Thomas Schmidt, 17th TRW Vice Commander. "This is a weekend where we see an increase in traffic and water mishaps." Fourth of July is often associated with heavy traffic, outdoor cooking, water sports and use of fireworks. The wing Safety Office has released several articles in the past week on ways to enforce safety in each of these activities. "We care about our members," said Schmidt. "We want them to have fun during the extended weekend, but to do so safely." Members will receive wingman cards as they leave the base, which can also be found on the Goodfellow home page website. It contains important numbers for organizations such as Airman Against Drunk Driving, local cab services, Security Forces, SARC hotline and more.
