Sports and Safety Day kicks off 101 Critical Days of Summer Published May 30, 2013 By Staff Sgt. Laura R. McFarlane 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Goodfellow kicked off the 101 Critical Days of Summer campaign with Safety and Sports Day, May 23. Goodfellow placed special emphasis on safe driving with three showings of the Street Smart program throughout the day at the base theater. The Street Smart program provided real-life experiences from firefighter paramedics, who explained trauma on the human body during vehicle accidents. Stay Alive From Education, presenters of Street Smart, focused on helping drivers be aware of the dangers of driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs or not wearing seatbelts. When not attending safety events, Team Goodfellow members participated in sporting events, which included track and field, soccer, basketball and dodgeball. The dodgeball competition was particularly popular and it was challenging to be the last one left standing. "It's competitive," said Airman 1st Class Granville Sharpe III, 316th Training Squadron student, after watching the dodge ball games. "People are really getting into it." Sports and Safety Day helped enforced the importance of safety as the 101 critical days of summer arrive through different briefings and activities that were presented to the base.
