17th LRS holds first annual safety awareness function Published May 20, 2013 By Brandon Finckle 17th Logistics Readiness Squadron SAN ANGELO, Texas -- The 17th Logistic Readiness Squadron held their first annual safety awareness function at the Goodfellow Air Force Base Recreation Camp, April 26. The Unit Safety Representatives and the 17 LRS Eagle Pride Booster Club hosted the event. The USRs organized two competitions to instill a safety mindset and esprit de corps encouraging competition and team building. The first event was the beer-goggle challenge, a two-person game, where one participant drives a golf cart with beer-goggles while the other participant navigates for the driver. The purpose of the event was to emphasize the effects of alcohol on reaction time and vision. The second event consisted of eight five-member teams competing in a rendition of charades, a game where players have to draw and correctly guess what their team member is performing. The game included topics on local spring and summer related safety such as heat stroke treatment, boating and hunting safety as well as insect and reptile bites. Lt. Col. Lisa Dahl, 17th LRS commander, gave a special thanks to the 17th Wing Safety Office personnel who donated various prizes and provided the beer goggles. Paul Adams, 17th LRS vehicle management flight chief, said the 17th LRS' first annual safety awareness function proved to be very successful and all LRS participants thoroughly enjoyed the different approach on the significance on safety. The function proved safety doesn't have to be briefings at Commander's Calls. The USRs encouraged all LRS personnel to keep up the good work. The USRs also got their message across, demonstrating safety can be hands on and fun and encouraging participation across the squadron.
