Goodfellow's Top-3 Association teamed up with Michael Mitchell, honorary base command chief and local businessman, to create the Lt. Col. Andy "Dixie" Cupp Scholarship Fund.

Cupp is a former 17th Training Group Deputy Group Commander, who enlisted in the Air Force in May 1979 as an intelligence operations specialist.

A strong advocate for education, Cupp finished his bachelor's degree, attended Officer Training School and commissioned in 1994. Unfortunately, in December 2008, Cupp was diagnosed with melanoma. Although he battled through extensive treatment, the cancer spread throughout his body.

Cupp retired July 3, 2012 and now lives in Tennessee, where he continues to fight for his life. He believes Airmen should always better themselves through education and training. To honor him and support his belief Goodfellow's Top-3 and Mitchell created the scholarship.

The scholarship fund consists of two $1,000 scholarships. The Top-3 Association is accepting applications until May 31 and plans to announce scholarship recipients June 7. For eligibility, members must be on active duty, currently stationed at Goodfellow, enrolled in a degree program and have at least a 3.0 grade point average.

To submit a package, military members must provide the following:

· Biography
· Two letters of recommendation from the commanding officer and a first sergeant or senior enlisted
