17 SFS, SAPD team up for Police Week

GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas --
The San Angelo Police Department and 17th Security Forces Squadron are teaming up for National Police Week, May 12-18.
Throughout the week, events will take place on and off base hosted by both law enforcement agencies to celebrate the week, which honors the courage and sacrifices of law enforcement agencies.
National Police Week started in 1962 when President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day the week in which the date falls as National Police Week.
Here's a list of events for the week:
10 a.m. - SAPD will host a Flag Raising Ceremony at the SAPD building, 401 East Beauregard.
1 p.m. - SAPD will host a golf tournament at the Bentwood Country Club. Registration is at 11:30 a.m. To pre-register, visit Community Services at 505 S. Chadbourne Street.
Both events are open to the public.
The 17th SFS will host a military working dog retirement ceremony at the 17 SFS kennels. This event is not open to the public.
11 a.m. - SAPD will host ecumenical services and a luncheon at Glen Meadows Baptist Church. The service is open to the public; however the luncheon is restricted to law enforcement personnel.
6:30 p.m. - SAPD will host the annual Police Memorial walk/run outside the San Angelo Stadium on the corner of Knickerbocker Road and Johnson Street. This event is open to the public, dogs are welcome with a leash.
10 a.m. - The 17 SFS will host the annual "Jail n Bail" at the Base Exchange as well as a weapons display and military working dog question and answer session. For more information, contact Tech. Sgt. Nathanael Meagher at 325-654-5359. These events are open to all base personnel.
The SAPD will host a firearms competition at the SAPD gun range. This event is not open to the public.
4:45 p.m. - The 17th SFS will host a retreat ceremony in front of the Norma Brown Building. The event is open to all base personnel.
