Children’s Fest; A 26 year Goodfellow tradition Published April 23, 2013 By 1st Lt. Leanne Hedgepeth 17 TRW/PA GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas-- -- Team Goodfellow participated in Children's Fest outside the Youth Center here, April 20. Children's Fest has been a tradition at Goodfellow Air Force Base for 26 years. "It was designed to give parents an opportunity to spend quality time with their kids," said Shandy Scott, director of youth programs. "Children's fest is a carnival atmosphere. Various agencies across the base set up information booths. The event also includes an obstacle course, food, working dog demonstration, games and a visit from Sparky." "Children's fest has been the same for the past few years," said Scott "but this year we added different games, information booths and a fitness relay sponsored by the fitness center that we didn't have in the past." Approximately 400 people participated in Children's Fest last year. "The event is designed to be open and relaxed," Scott said. "All base personnel are invited to attend." Family Advocacy and the base nutritionist were also present at the event. Both said their aim was to bring awareness to the community. Family Advocacy presented information at their booth, in honor of Child Abuse Prevention month. "I think it is extremely beneficial to the community and to the programs available on base," said Adrienne Damian, Family Advocacy nurse. "Our goal is to enhance prevention while promoting the programs available on base." Staff Sgt. Jacob Thompson, 316th Military Training Leader, said it's great to bring all the kids together to have fun and let loose. His son, Caden Thompson said the event was "really fun!"
