Earth week celebrations are quickly becoming a strong tradition at Goodfellow.

Gaylord Nelson, former Wisconsin Senator, started the first Earth Day in 1969 as a way to bring national attention to protecting the environment.

This year Goodfellow has adopted the Air Force Official theme, Conserve Today-Secure Tomorrow.

Goodfellow's emphasis for 2013 is water conservation. The Concho Valley and most of the State of Texas is currently experiencing a record level drought. Conserving water today, and every day, helps secure the future mission of Goodfellow and strengthens the partnership with San Angelo.

This year's events include recycled art contests for the Child Development Center and School Age Program, a xeriscape planting event, green product awareness table at the Exchange and Commissary and a hazardous waste amnesty day for the turn in of on-base chemicals.

The 2013 schedule will conclude with a volunteer event at San Angelo Friends of the Environment recycling center April 27. SAFE is one of Goodfellow's many off base partners in promoting pollution prevention principles.
