17th Mental Health teaches Love and Logic class Published April 16, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Joshua Edwards 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Karen Bartholomeo, 17th Family Advocacy Outreach manager, taught the first module of the Love and Logic class at the 17th Mental Health Clinic, April 15. The Love and Logic course is a seven module program that helps parents learn what type of parent they are and how to handle their children. "When I started out I adopted two children from the foster care system and that's how I got into Love and Logic," said Bartholomeo. Bartholomeo then gave a brief description on how to raise responsible children, before showing a video about it. "Smart parents know short-term discomfort is better than long-term pain," said Charles Fay, Love and Logic public speaker, in the video. "They allow their kids to make a lot of choices and a lot of mistakes when they are young to avoid long-term discomfort. The kids later on don't have to make major mistakes." After the video, Bartholomeo had an open discussion with the parents about their opinions on the video and how they actually handle the learning process. The class will meet again April 22, 11:30 a.m. For more information contact Karen Bartholomeo at 325-654-3122.
