April: A month for awareness

Col. Mark Damiano, 17th Training Wing Commander, signed the April 2013 Joint Proclamation in the Norma Brown Building here, March 27.

The April proclamation is used to mark the start of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Month of the Military Child, Child Abuse Prevention Month and Alcohol Awareness Month.

The Goodfellow Family Advocacy Program, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Treatment Program, Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Program and the Airman and Family Readiness Center, along with other agencies will host several events throughout April.

· April 1 to 30, Sexual Assault and Alcohol Awareness Signs will be posted along the troop walk.
· From 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. throughout the month, SAPR and the Integrated Delivery System are visiting squadrons to pass out free prevention and self- help materials, coffee and baked goods.
· April 8 and 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Family Advocacy is hosting a Love and Logic parenting class in the Mental Health Conference Room.
· April 9 at 4 p.m. is Rodeo day at the School Age Building. Youth will wear western outfits and participate in rodeo-like events.
· April 11 at 4 p.m., Family Night at the School Age Building. Youth will prepare food and play bingo with families.
· April 20 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. is Operation K.I.D.S. at the Airman Leadership School. Children go on a mock deployment.
· April 20 from noon to 4 p.m. is Kids Fun Day at the School Age Building. The event features information areas, children carnival games, horseback riding, working dogs demonstration, face painting and more.
· April 23 at 4 p.m. is Read to Me Day at the School Age Building. Different people from the base are invited to read to the children.
· April 27 at noon, SAPR is hosting the 3rd Annual SARC Challenge at the Event Center. Competitors will solve puzzles and gather clues. Prizes awarded to the winners.
· April 30 at noon is Fitness Fanatics at the School Age Building. This is a mini Olympic type event with various fitness activities.
