Angelo State University's Air Force ROTC Detachment 847 hosted its annual Junior ROTC Drill Meet at ASU, March 23.

The drill meet featured 13 different events for nine different high schools to participate in.
Some of the students competing at these events use the JROTC as a stepping stone for their future.

"The leadership they provide for females is something outstanding," said Joely Fernandez, Lakeview High School AFJROTC competitor. "I want to join the military, so this helps me with my warrior knowledge."

The drill meet was judged based on a point deduction system. Judging was conducted by Team Goodfellow students and permanent party, who have a history with drill.

"I was in JROTC and went to drill competitions," said Airman 1st Class Deborah Hamm, 315th Training Squadron student. "I'm also an Airmen leader and we march the squadrons, so we have to have experience marching and giving commands."

Once all the points were tallied, Cooper High School was chosen as the overall winner of the drill meet and took home the biggest trophy.
