Professional artist and Vietnam veteran Warren Taylor presented his view on creative sketching and drawing during a class held at the Arts and Crafts center, here, March 24.

"There is no right or wrong way to draw," he said. Taylor's aim is to help participants develop their own individual way of drawing so they can create visual diaries throughout life.

His trip to Goodfellow was centered on giving military people another interest that is very portable, everything can be thrown in a suitcase or duffel bag.

Taylor recalled he has been an artist since the second grade. He excelled in drawing and painting but never got into sculpture or ceramics.
Taylor decided to take his artistic talent to the next level by majoring in art during college and then going on to teach art for the next 40 years.
He didn't practice art so much during his time in the service because he was always so busy. In all, Taylor said art has been his central anchor in life.

"Art has been God's loveliest gift to me, he wants us to use gifts not put them on a shelf and throw them away," he added.

Taylor encouraged the class by saying, "It will click if you keep trying."

Taylor compared beginning something new to his experience jumping in the water without knowing how to swim. He said he just had to try and was able to swim.

He said his favorite thing to depict is the cactus. "It's a mystery plant that tells you to stay your distance."
