Losing fat and gaining muscle

The Change Your Life program starts at the Mathis Fitness Center here, April 4, and runs until the end of June.

The Change Your Life program is a competition, during which participants collect points by keeping a food journal, attending group meetings, losing inches from their waists, losing body fat and gaining lean mass.

In the program, participants will learn how to eat healthy and try different exercises.

"The goal is to try and introduce new kinds of fitness," said Lana Simmons, 17th Force Support Squadron recreation assistant. "I want people to try all the group fitness classes we have at Mathis and Carswell."

This program ties together what Simmons has learned in the past.

"This program is based off what worked for me when I was a lot heavier," said Simmons. "I needed to create an environment that made it difficult to fail."
