The Army and Air Force Exchange Service is bringing digital cinema to the Goodfellow theater. The format provides the audience with high-quality images and sound that does not degrade over time.

This is an important point for Exchange theaters as these facilities are considered "second-run," meaning, while movies cost less, analog prints that made their way through the first-run circuit showed their age.

"The 100th showing will be as crisp and clear as the first," said Sue Roy, Goodfellow Exchange general manager. "This conversion, completed Feb. 15, cost the Goodfellow Exchange approximately $120,000 and will also provide us the availability to offer 3D movies."

Converting all theaters that have been identified for digital projection is expected to cost the Exchange approximately $7.4 million. This is a large investment for a self-sustaining entity like the Exchange, but critical in allowing some operations to continue offering movie services.
