Veteran retires after 50 years of federal service Published Jan. 29, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Erica Rodriguez 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Former Airman and Family Readiness flight chief, Anthony Hooks Jr. celebrated his retirement ceremony at the Event Center, Jan. 25. Hooks officially retired from his position as a flight chief Dec. 31, 2012. The ceremony, presided by Lt. Col. Ryan Dahl, 17th Force Support Squadron Commander, celebrated Hook's 50 years of service in the U.S. federal government. Hooks served a 28 year military career. He worked various military specialties such as supply, inspector general for Headquarters Civil Air Patrol and served 13 years as a first sergeant. His duty locations include: Thailand, Korea, South Central America and Europe. Hooks also was awarded numerous awards for his outstanding performance during his Air Force career. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal six times, Air Force Commendation Medal 5 times and the Presidential Medal of Honor for his humanitarian efforts in South Central America. After his retirement from the military in September 1991, he began working as a civil servant in May 1992. Hooks arrived at Goodfellow in 1996 serving as the Air Force Aid Officer until 2006, when he became the Airman and Family Readiness flight chief.
