An Air Force Best Practice is defined as "a superior method or innovative practice that contributes to the improved performance of a process."

The Air Force Best Practice Clearinghouse was created as a result of the 1995 MAJCOM Commander's Conference. Located on the Air Force Manpower Agency's Community of Practice the AFBPC has become the single source for sharing approved AFBPs.

Governed by AFH 38-210, the AFBP Program directly supports the Feb 2002 President's Management Agenda, E-Government Strategy, which advocates using and sharing best practices throughout the federal government and is only one of the many ways the Air Force encourages innovation and motivation through task ownership.

Although Best Practices can and should be submitted throughout the year, with the Consolidated Unit Inspection scheduled for November 2013, the Goodfellow Manpower Office would like to emphasize that the AFBP Program is not only a great way for units to be recognized for their hard work at the Air Force level, but by trying and sharing superior methods or innovative practices, they directly contribute to the improved mission performance of our United States Air Force. Through their participation in the AFBP Program, units ensure the bar is constantly raised high.

Best practices may be based on one or more factors, to include, but not limited to:

--Expert review of the practice by a functional (award, audit team, etc.)
--Superior results when compared to like organizations
--"Breakthrough" results in efficiency or effectiveness
--Practice employs latest technology
--High number of customers report satisfaction

As validation of the program's value, the Air Force Inspector General functional community has endorsed the AFBP and adopted its use in the inspection requirements. To guarantee recognition during this year's CUI, best practice submissions need to be submitted to AETC at least 45 days prior to the CUI. The process for submitting a best practice is simple, but does take time, so we recommend contacting us as soon as possible.
