Tobacco use in the Air Force and on Goodfellow Published Nov. 14, 2012 By Robert D. Martinez 17th Training Wing Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Tobacco use in the Air Force has made some major changes. Highlights of these changes include: · designation of tobacco-free medical campuses, clinic or hospital · updated Designated Tobacco Areas and areas where tobacco use is prohibited · updated policies on tobacco use among Airmen in formal training programs · revised interventions to prevent and decrease tobacco use · revised delineation of responsibilities to promote a tobacco-free Air Force For more information on these changes please refer to Air Force Instruction 40-102, "Tobacco Use in the Air Force. " Goodfellow made some changes too, outlined in Commander's Emphasis Memo 12, "Tobacco Use on Goodfellow Air Force Base." Effective immediately, all tobacco use is prohibited on Goodfellow, except in Designated Tobacco Areas. This includes, but is not limited to, all workplaces, lodging facilities, recreation areas, and government or personal vehicles. The adverse effects of tobacco use not only cost our health care systems, but impacts mission readiness and personal health. The goal of these changes is to help reduce tobacco consumption and promote a tobacco free lifestyle. The 11 designated smoking areas on Goodfellow are listed below: · 17th Civil Engineering Squadron North side of Building 3519, in northwest corner of lot · 17th Logistics Readiness Squadron; no students, instructor/ permanent party only Northwest of Building 511 · Transportation Southeast of Building 3420 east, parking lot, west of Apache Trail · 17th Security Forces Squadron/ Fire Department Pavilion 3322, east of Building 3321 and west of Building 3323 · Fire School 100 feet southeast of the Haz Mat wing and 100 feet east of Building 3453 · Fire Truck Maintenance West of Building 3347 · Events Center/ Outdoor Rec; no students, instructor/ permanent party only Pavilion between Building 800 and Building 723 · 344th Military Intelligence Battalion; student smoking only Pavilion west of Building 257 · BX/ Commissary East of Building 222 and northwest of Building 213 · Pipeline Dorms; student smoking only East of Building 3227 · Arts and Crafts; student smoking only Pavilion north Building 109
