Team Goodfellow Home Run Derby Published May 15, 2012 By Lt. Col. Michael Jones 17th Mission Support Group GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Mathis Fitness Center held the Annual Home Run Derby, April 20 at the main softball field. Seventeen participants took part in the event. Each batter was allowed 10 swings in the first round and five swings in the second and third round. The wind was blowing in towards first base, making the long ball difficult. The first eight batters failed to hit a home run because of the wind so the gym staff relaxed the first round requirements and any competitor that either hit a home run or hit the fence advanced to the second round. Four batters advanced to the second round, Tech. Sgt. Bradley Schultz, 312th Training Squadron and Lt. Col. Michael Jones, 17th Mission Support Group advanced to the final round with Jones hitting three home runs to win the derby for the second year in a row. Schultz came in second again as well.
