What does Goodfellow, command chief, student and instructor have in common?

The 17th Training Wing's new Command Chief Master Sgt. Scott Lumpkin.

"Goodfellow is familiar territory for me and my family," Lumpkin said. "I was assigned here both as a student and as a technical training instructor."

The Vista, Calif., native entered the Air Force in 1989 as a Korean Cryptologic Linguist Specialist. His background includes numerous leadership roles at squadron, wing, numbered Air Force and headquarters levels. He has been stationed in California, Maryland, Texas, Washington D.C, the Republic of Korea and the United Kingdom.

Prior to assuming his current position on March 19, Lumpkin served as the senior enlisted leader for the Intelligence and Knowledge Development Directorate Molesworth, United States Africa Command, Royal Air Force Molesworth, United Kingdom.

The 23-year Air Force veteran returned to Goodfellow to teach the Cryptologic Linguist course at the 316th Training Squadron from Dec. 1996 to June 2000.

Lumpkin said he's looking forward to serving his third tour here as a leader, and considers his return as a sort of coming home.

"My wife, Meg, and I were extremely excited about the prospect of rejoining Team Goodfellow, and the welcome we have received has been beyond our wildest expectations," Lumpkin said. "Goodfellow and the San Angelo community hold a special place in our hearts."

The chief said his focus for Team Goodfellow is to accomplish the training mission while taking care of the people, permanent party and students alike, joint mission partners, as well as civilian team members.

"My goal is to improve the quality of our product, the quality of life for our personnel and their families, and ultimately to make Goodfellow an assignment of choice across our military services," he added.

With his vast experience in education, Lumpkin said he is a true believer in education and training.

"I have served several operational tours, and I can tell you firsthand that what we do here is critical to our nation's defense," he added. "Training is the foundation of our military's operational success, and every single person on this installation contributes to that success. I am extremely proud to once again be part of Team Goodfellow. It is truly an honor."
