Big Brother Big Sister of San Angelo mentoring program Published Feb. 23, 2012 GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Angelo is working on a grant to expand Big Brothers Big Sisters' Military mentoring program to the San Angelo community. The program provides one-to-one mentoring services to children of deployed or military parents and also serves members of the armed forces and military veterans. Big Brothers Big Sisters' Military mentoring program is part of at least a third of the organization's nearly 360 agencies nationwide and serves more than 6,000 children, parents and families across the country, including Texas. The Big Brother Big Sister organization is aware of the unique challenges that military families face. The Big Brothers Big Sisters' mentoring programs are proven to help kids achieve positive outcomes for children, putting us in a position to provide that additional support. The specialized Military mentoring program is designed to help us best serve military families and their children and the funding from this program will help bring this opportunity to the San Angelo Community. There are two programs that the children of deployed or military parents can participate in. There is a School Based Program that allows the Big to go to the school of the Little to have lunch with them. There is also a community based program that allows the Big and Little to enjoy various activities throughout the community. For more information, please contact Alicia King, (325) 654-5715.
