Military Saves Week to kick-off Published Feb. 14, 2012 GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas-- -- The Goodfellow Military Saves Kick-Off is scheduled for Feb. 21, at the Event Center. The week's activities are part of the Defense Department's larger Military Saves campaign, which began in 2007 to recognize the special financial challenges faced by service members. The campaign's goals are to promote healthy financial habits and encourage everyone to take a Saver's Pledge. By completing a pledge card during the week's events or online at the Military Saves website: www.militarysaves.org participants make a commitment to themselves for savings. This year, Military Saves Week is Feb. 19 - 26 with the theme, "Set a Goal, Make a Plan, Save Automatically." All personnel are invited to attend a cake cutting ceremony and Financial Information Fair scheduled from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Feb. 21. Host agencies include the Airman $Family Readiness Center, 1st Community Federal Credit Union, USAA Educational Foundation, Office of Special Investigations, Base Exchange, Legal, Money Management International and DeCA. "This year we want to ensure 100% unit contact and outreach to our youth," said Pamela Flemions, A&FRC Community Readiness Consultant. During Military Saves Week, Airman and Family Readiness Center will host a variety of events. They are designed to encourage service members, family members, and DoD personnel to reduce debt and save their hard-earned money. Family Child Care Providers will receive financial money kits and the Child Development Center will host a Kids Save program and Exchange Fashion Show during the week as well. As an added bonus, additional Personal Financial Counselors from the Military Health Network will provide their services and support during the week's many events.
