Air Education and Training Command branded the 17th Training Wing with an 'Excellent' mark after an arduous week-long Compliance Inspection of Goodfellow Air Force Base Nov. 14 to 18.

"It is a difficult task to earn an 'Excellent,' said Col. Mark Damiano, 17th TRW commander. "The inspectors validated what I've known all along...we have a great team here at Goodfellow. Wing members are constantly setting a standard of excellence."

More than 115 AETC inspectors converged on the installation and examined every aspect of the wing's ability to accomplish its training mission. Before tallying the final "Excellent" rating for Team Goodfellow, command experts scrutinized unit programs and processes.

They examined leadership, training and performance at all levels of the wing. CI inspectors also tested Team Goodfellow's ability to respond to a Major Accident Response Exercise as well as a heightened security exercise.

"These types of inspections are very intense," said Colonel Damiano. "We had three other inspections taking place on base as well. We are the first base in AETC to have three major inspections occur simultaneously. All three inspections were 'Excellent.' It was a tough week, but Team Goodfellow members' dedication and hard work paid off."

AETC inspectors recognized more than 100 members of the wing for outstanding performance during the CI.

Generally, wing-level CI's are accomplished Air Force-wide every two years. This latest inspection continues an 'Excellent' trend for the wing. The 17th TRW garnered 'Excellent' ratings for Operational Readiness Inspections in 2004 and 2006, as well as the 2009 Unit Compliance Inspection.
